Job Description:

To provide supervision and guidance to skills trainers, assistant directors, teachers and teacher aides within the Unaccompanied Children Program. Will manage all Learning Center lessons, activities and day to day operations.

HOURS PER WEEK: Exempt. Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday

Must be flexible to meet program needs

Evenings and weekends may be required


  • Work collaboratively with Director of H West/North to ensure daily efficient operational management of the Learning Center
  • Supervise assistant directors, skills trainers, teachers and teacher aides- manage scheduling, time off requests, and time sheets
  • Train and supervise team; including but not limited to lesson planning and implementation, classroom management, & behavior management
  • Prepare staff to meet the needs of non-English speaking students, incorporating ESL as a main component of curricula
  • Ensure compliance with all ORR and New York State education requirements - such as child abuse, DASA, and school violence prevention
  • Ensure lesson plans are grade appropriate and reflective of the NYS core curriculum with an emphasis on learning English (ESL)
  • Identify and create lesson plans for children with special needs utilizing technology
  • Develop curriculum for life skills and skill building tasks for each youth
  • Develop and schedule lessons for educational and recreational field trips
  • Monitor acculturation/skills, education records, recreation, physical education, and leisure logs in accordance with ORR
  • Monitor sites and tracking of minors’ whereabouts for safety as per ORR’s PSA and AWOL protocols
  • Serve as the primary liaison for foster parents and the Learning Center
  • Collaborate with VP of NYC Operations & Community Relations of nutritional needs of minors including but not limited to menu planning and food prep certification
  • Collaborate with the VP of NYC Operations and Community Relations to develop community relationships with neighboring businesses to assist in meeting the needs of the minors placed in our care
  • Ensure class and trip attendance accuracy and procedures
  • Coordinate and schedule chaperon services for youth
  • Assist with facilitating training modules as needed by the training department
  • Assist with foster parent support groups
  • Monitor and report Significant Incident Reports
  • Monitor and participate in safety plans for minors
  • Monitor storage rooms- including maintaining inventory of food, clothing, hygiene kits, and other materials.

Experience and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in related field required
  • Two years of management experience required
  • Familiarity with ACS, OCFS, OPWDD, OMH and other relevant municipal and state agencies preferred
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools strongly preferred
  • Demonstrate conceptual understanding of developmentally appropriate behavior for children/adolescents in the home, school, and community
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children
  • Bi-lingual - English-Spanish required. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency required. Position itself requires Spanish speaking, writing, and reading proficiency.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations


  • Ability to perform bending, lifting, prolonged sitting/standing
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
  • Word processing: including responding to e-mails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation, etc.: This involves sitting at a computer for several hours a day
  • Ability to handle various modes of transportation- Handle air travel- including turbulent flying
  • Completing paperwork -Such as copying, stapling
  • Sit in and/or drive a vehicle up to several hours
  • Sit/ride in vehicles, busses, subways, trains, planes - public transportation for lengthy periods of time
  • Walk up/down stairs
  • Walk to enter/exit subway and other public transportation
  • Walk several blocks to get to required location
