Job Description:

Under the supervision of the CFO, this role maintains and administers the monthly general ledger and assists in the preparation of financial statements. Analyzes and prepares reconciliations for various general ledger account balances. Assists the CFO in preparing for Board Meetings, audits, budgets, period end reports and other projects as needed. Responsible for overseeing the agency’s day-to-day fiscal operations.


  • Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs

Experience and Skills:


  • Prepares financial statements for internal and external users
  • Collects and analyzes financial data, ensuring that all reporting is in compliance with GAAP reporting guidelines
  • Researches accounting rules and regulations and makes recommendations regarding company policy
  • Assists external auditors as needed
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Assists in budget preparation
  • Processes data and prepared schedules for audits
  • Acts as back-up for Accounts Receivable
  • Provides technical assistance to program managers in the monitoring of site specific budgets
  • Prepares all annual and quarterly reports to include CFR, SSOP and reports to OPwDD and Mental Health
  • Creates journal entries to balance accounts and bank reconciliations
  • Responsible for the development of monthly costs analysis report of agency’s expenses
  • Oversees the creation, maintenance and reporting of budgets
  • Responsible for financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting
  • Works with the CFO and department directors to implement and control the budget
  • Advises the CFO on trends, patterns, and the changing fiscal environment
  • Manages a Finance staff to ensure the necessary functions of billing, collecting receivables, approving and paying for expenditures, reporting and analyzing expenses are done in an accurate and timely manner


  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Requires 3 to 5 years’ experience performing accounting related functions such as general ledger maintenance and complete month end close
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and reporting requirements
  • Understanding of accounting concepts such as prepaid, accruals and deferrals
  • Understanding of nonprofit allocation methods and administrative allocations
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting and government reporting forms strongly preferred
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License required
  • Ability to travel to all agency locations as required


  • Word processing: Including responding to e-mails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation, transcribing minutes for meetings, etc.: This involves sitting at a computer for a minimum of 5 hours and could be up to 7 hours a day depending on program needs
  • Completing paperwork -Such as copying, stapling
  • Answering phones, processing mail, filing, lifting packages
  • Ability to travel to all Cayuga Centers program sites
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
