Job Description:

The data specialist acts as the centralized point of contact for all UC Reports in ORR. The data specialist will input information into our database and into various excel sheets, as well as extract data from online resources to create databases. The specialist would be able to effectively manage large amounts of information. The ideal candidate will be computer savvy and a fast typist with a keen eye for detail. Understanding of data confidentiality principles is compulsory. Cayuga Centers will rely on the data specialist for having accurate and updated data that are easily accessible through a digital database and our shared server.

HOURS PER WEEK: Non exempt

  • 40 hours, non-exempt position
  • Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as assigned


  • Responsible for inputting text based and numerical information from source documents/databases within time limits
  • Compile, sort, and verify accuracy of data to be entered, compare data entered against source documents or re-enter data during the verification process as required.
  • Review data for deficiencies or errors, complete corrections as needed
  • Research and obtain further information for incomplete documents
  • Apply data program techniques and procedures
  • Generate reports, store completed work in designated locations and perform backup operations
  • Keep information confidential
  • Respond to queries for information and access relevant files
  • Comply with data integrity and security policies
  • Ensure proper use of office equipment and address any malfunctions
  • Retrieve data from the database/electronic files as requested
  • Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among the agency’s service population

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field plus 3-5 years’ progressive experience
  • Bilingual- English / Spanish preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills - required
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and web-based databases
  • Excellent knowledge of word processing tools and spread sheets such as Microsoft Excel
  • Basic to moderate understanding of databases
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective researching skills to obtain data
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred


  • Ability to drive and operate a motor vehicle with passengers for at least four consecutive hours
  • Ability to participate in physical activities with program youth, including running, jumping, bending, and twisting
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs repeatedly
