Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Youth Care Worker
will provide developmentally appropriate care and supervision to
youth. This staff member will serve as a positive adult role model and
will engage youth in daily routine and activities. The Youth Care
Worker will execute approved behavioral interventions per the program
model. The Youth Care Worker will support youth in goal achievement by
helping the youth develop necessary skills and work toward permanency
readiness.This staff member will maintain professionalism in all
areas, including confidentiality.
HOURS PER WEEK:
- Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and
holidays, as assigned
FUNCTIONS:
- Utilize appropriate physical, mental, and emotional boundaries in
all situations
- Ensure a clean and safe program that promotes a therapeutic and
learning environment
- Employ all agency protocols and procedures in order to maintain a
physically and emotionally safe environment consistent with agency principles
- Utilize approved supervision and behavior management strategies,
including verbal de-escalation strategies
- Facilitate the written daily schedule, including the daily
routine, academic study time, supervise or facilitate family time,
and recreation activities
- Assist youth with aspects of daily routine, including assistance
with bathing and toileting, as deemed developmentally appropriate
and necessary by program leadership
- Provide and maintain proper supervision of youth at all times as
per program protocol
- Use approved techniques to engage youth in expected appropriate behavior
- Learn and understand each youth’s discharge plan and document
daily progress toward goals
- Learn and recognize the triggers of each youth and respond to
their behavioral effects as outlined in the Individualized Crisis
Management Plan and approved Behavior Management Plan
- Identify and address negative, challenging, and/or inappropriate
behaviors in a calm and rational manner that promotes safety and
stability for the youth while developing youth accountability
- Transport youth to and from school, appointments and activities,
as assigned
- Encourage youth to attend school, complete all assignments, and
participate in their education
- Supervise family time with youth and their family, guardian,
and/or kin resource, as required
- Dispense medication as per program protocol
- Facilitate group conversations and activities to promote a
positive peer culture
- Teach hard and soft life skills to youth on an individual basis
- Complete all necessary communications, documentation, and logging
as per program protocol
- Review all emails, logs, and necessary documentation upon arrival
at work for each shift
- Effectively communicate all necessary information to other staff
and appropriate parties as per program protocol
- Consult with the Youth and Family Resource Program Manager and
Clinical staff when necessary
- Provide staffing coverage as assigned. Remain on-duty until
properly relieved
- Participate in supervision with the Vice President of Residential Services
- Attend required trainings to enhance skills and knowledge as it
pertains to their role, including but not limited to Theraputic
Crisis Intervention verbal de-escalation, Coaching Family Visits,
and Motivational Interviewing trainings
- Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among
the agency’s service population
- Responsible for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of
Protected Health Information of service recipients in any form
(e.g., computer access, conversations, documentation) during and
surviving the termination, expiration or cancellation of
employment/association with Cayuga Centers
- Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing
access to Protected Health Information under HIPPA. Access to
Protected Health Information is limitied to the extent required to
perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access
will be permitted unnecessarily. These essential job functions
