Job Description:

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:To provide supervision and guidance to skills trainers and assistant director within the Unaccompanied Children Program. Will assist in the coordination of skills training activities and oversee department and staff.

FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the daily functions of department
  • Develop curriculum for life skills and skill building tasks for each youth
  • Develop and schedule lessons for educational and recreational field trips
  • Provide skill-building training to assist youth in acquisition of new skills
  • Work cooperatively with program staff to effectively implement each individual program
  • Supervise assistant director and skills trainers
  • Monitor and supervise skill building sessions
  • Monitor acculturation/skills, recreation, physical education, and leisure logs in accordance with ORR
  • Conduct professional development training for skills trainers and assistant directors
  • Coordinate and schedule chaperon services for youth
  • Participate in behavior management plans
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Learning Center to provide operational oversight for the Learning Center
  • Collaborate with the VP of NYC Operations and Community Relations to develop community relationships with neighboring businesses to assist in meeting the needs of the minors placed in our care
  • Assist with facilitating training modules as needed by the training department
  • Assist with foster parent support groups
  • Monitor and report Significant Incident Reports
  • Monitor and participate in safety plans for minors
  • Ensure class and trip attendance accuracy and procedures
  • Monitor storage rooms- including maintaining inventory of food, clothing, hygiene kits, and other materials.
    • Attend required training.
    • Read required books.
  • Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPAA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. These essential job functions dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by your immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two years of management experience required
  • Familiarity with ACS, OCFS, OMRDD, OMH and other relevant municipal and state agencies preferred
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a flexible team context.
  • Ability to implement a skills training program.
  • Demonstrate conceptual understanding of developmentally appropriate behavior for children/adolescents in the home, school, and community.
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children.
  • Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner.
  • Bi-lingual - English-Spanish required. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency required. Position itself requires Spanish speaking, writing, and reading proficiency.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations as required.

HOURS PER WEEK: Exempt. Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Must be flexible to meet program needs. Evenings and weekends may be required.
