Job Description:

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists in directing a residential living unit. Facilitating the approved program to assist residents in acquiring the skills and self-esteem needed to establish and achieve personal goals. The Assistant Manager will maintain professionalism in all areas including confidentiality, demonstrate the ability to perform all group care worker tasks and lead by example.


  1. Care of Residents
    • Lead facilitator for all matrix model and Emerson intensification groups in the absence of the unit manager.
    • Provide approval for resident’s personal belongings and attire for all questionable items.
    • Responsible for picking up and maintain rec money as well as the residents allowance.
  2. Mentoring Of Staff
    • Demonstrates the ability to perform all responsibilities assigned to the residential group care worker.
    • Provides mentoring and support for staff and to establish and empowering house culture that encourages growth.
    • Will Provide mentoring and guidance for newly hired staff.
    • Co-facilitate of treatment team meeting and staff meetings. Will facilitate these meetings in absence of the unit manager.
    • Overseeing the To Be Filed responsibilities for their cottage.
    • Oversee the maintenance of all cottage paperwork making sure everything is up to date and accurate.
  3. Department and Agency Responsibilities
    • Phone screen and participate in first round interviews.
    • Attend any meetings, trainings or appointments as assigned by their immediate supervisor.
    • Take the lead in maintaining the cleanliness and Organization within the unit.
    • Conducts all required fire drills in the absence of the Unit Manager.
    • Will be the Independent Living specialist in their cottage will assist in the development of the Independent Living program.
  4. Liaison for communication
  • Works directly with the recreational specialist in the development and implementation of recreational routine, off campus/on campus activities.
  • Approves any altered routine or recreational activities in the absence of the unit manager.
  • Communicates and coordinates any appointment needs as expected from the Nursing Department.
  • In absence of the Unit Manager will attend res core.
  • Assist in the development of the weekly transport list on Thursdays in regards to residents’ home visits. Coordination with Scheduler with any immediate scheduling needs in the absence of a Unit Manager.
  • Responsible for duties of on call manager once every nine weeks.


Experience and Skills:

1. Associates Degree in a Human Services related field and a minimum of one year of Residential Care experience with progressive responsibilities; Or High School Diploma and a minimum of three years.

2. Possess the knowledge, attitude, and skills needed to appreciate and encourage diversity including:

  • The ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helped to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and problems they face;
  • A strong positive conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change;
  • The ability to work in partnership with other team members;
  • The ability to set limits and maintain the helping and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

3. Experience in providing therapy/treatment services for at-risk youth and families.

4. Possess a valid NYS driver’s license.
