Job Description:

Summary of Responsibilities:The Physician Assistant will support and initially treat any medical needs required by UC, traveling when necessary to each New York City location. The Physician Assistant will conduct an initial medical assessment and refer UC to medical services as needed.

Functions:

  • Conduct initial medical assessments for each youth in the New York City Programs.

  • Diagnose and treat basic medical conditions for each youth.

  • Refer UC and other New York City Program youth to appropriate medical specialties as needed.

  • Write prescriptions as needed.

  • Administer injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections

  • Conduct follow-up services for UC and other New York City programs as needed.

  • Develop and oversee the NYC vaccination program ensuring all regulations are met.

  • Administer vaccinations as needed for each UC and other New York City Programs.

  • Administer TB tests to each UC and Cayuga Centers employees as needed.

  • Create and electronically submit TARs for each UC and other required medical paperwork for each New York City Program as needed.

  • Create and update information for each UC in the UC Portal and other New York City Program youth web-databases as required.

  • Conduct foster parent, foster family, and employee physicals.

  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for medical services.

  • Work collaboratively with the medical team including, MD. FNP, RN’s and MA’s, to provide appropriate services to each UC and other youth in the New York City Programs.

  • Work collaboratively with the Case Manager, Clinician, and Skills Trainer to provide appropriate services to each UC and other youth in the New York City Programs.

  • Discuss medical conditions of UC with ORR and the FFS.

  • Attend required training.

  • Read required books.

  • Responsible for medical programmatic changes.

  • Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPAA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. The essential job functions as described, herein, dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information.

  • Perform other duties as requested by your immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.

Experience and Skills:

  • Appropriate NYS certifications and licensure - required.

  • Experience working with at-risk youth - strongly preferred.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills - required.

  • Bi-lingual preferred - English-Spanish. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency required. Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team context.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgment.

  • Ability to travel to other agency locations as required.
