Job Description:

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will support and initially treat any medical needs required by UC, traveling when necessary to each New York City location. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will conduct an initial psychiatric evaluation of each youth and refer UC to medical services as needed.

FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct initial psychiatric evaluation for each youth in the New York City Programs.
  • Refer youth to appropriate medical specialties as needed.
  • Provide medication management of youth in the UC Program.
  • Write prescriptions as needed.
  • Conduct follow-up services for UC and other New York City programs as needed.
  • Coordinate with the consulting psychologist and other staff conducting assessment to ensure we are developing a coordinated holistic view of the youths’ needs.
  • Create and electronically submit TARs for each youth and other required medical paperwork for each New York City Program as needed.
  • Create and update information for each youth in the UC Portal and other New York City Program youth web-databases as required.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for medical services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Case Manager, Clinician, and Skills Trainer to provide appropriate services to each youth in the New York City Programs.
  • Discuss medical conditions of youth with ORR and the FFS.
  • Attend required training.
  • Read required books.
  • Responsible for medical programmatic changes.
  • Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPAA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. The essential job functions as described, herein, dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by your immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.

Experience and Skills:

  • Appropriate NYS certifications and licensure - required.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth - strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills - required.
  • Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team context.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgment.
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations as required.

HOURS PER WEEK: Exempt

  • Regular hours entail 10:00am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday. Must be flexible to meet program needs.
