Job Description:

Summary of Responsibilities:

To support staff in supervising, transporting, and communicating with Unaccompanied Children (UC) as assigned.

This is a full-time 40 hours per week, non-exempt, hourly position. Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm schedule, Monday-Friday. Afternoons, evenings and weekends may be necessary for program needs.  Part time positions are available.

Job Functions:

  • Transport UC as assigned (both in New York State and across the nation).
  • Respectfully communicate with children, foster parents, and colleagues.
  • Assist team during case emergencies.
  • Pick up or deliver possessions as assigned.
  • Accompany UC to appointments as needed.
  • Assist within the Cayuga Centers tutoring program as needed.
  • Assist with the intake process as needed.
  • Assist with case documentation as needed.
  • Assist Case Managers in the reunification process
  • Supervise UC as assigned.
  • Shopping as assigned.
    • Attend required training.
    • Read required books.
  • Responsible for complying with rules and regulations governing access to Protected Health Information under HIPAA. Access to Protected Health Information is limited to the extent required to perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently. No access will be permitted unnecessarily. These essential job functions dictate the level of access, use, and disclosure of confidential information.


Experience and Skills:

  1. Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred; and at least 1-year experience working with families and children required.
  2. Experience working in a busy human services office- strongly preferred.
  3. Bi-lingual - English-Spanish required. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency required. Position itself requires Spanish speaking, writing, and reading proficiency.
  4. Ability to be flexible in the work schedule is a must.
  5. Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.
  6. Ability to take direction and respond appropriately in a crisis situation.
  7. Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner.
  8. Ability to work well with people from many cultures including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to work well in a team.
  10. Ability to meet deadlines and to work overtime, afterhours, and weekends when needed.
  11. Genuine love for working with children, teens, families and foster families.
  12. Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helping to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and problems they face.
  13. A strong positive conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
  14. The ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.
  15. Valid NYS Driver’s License.
